Author Guidelines
Form and Length
Essays run 5 to 15 pages. Media artifacts, multimodal compositions, visual or sonic projects, interactive works, and hybrid formats are all welcome. No strict length requirement for non-essay submissions -- the work should be as long as it needs to be.
Categories
Submissions need not fall into a single category; projects may resonate across clusters. If unsure where your work fits, describe what it does rather than what it is and we will figure it out together.
Accessibility
Multimodal and media submissions should include transcripts, captions, or other supplementary materials to ensure accessibility. We want all work reachable by all readers.
What We Look For
Work that invents rather than merely analyzes. Submissions that feel methodologically precise yet formally unsettled -- conceptually rigorous yet aesthetically exploratory. If it could not easily appear elsewhere, it likely belongs here.
Review Process
H'MMM uses a collaborative, dialogic review process. Reviewers engage submissions on their own terms. We evaluate whether work achieves what it sets out to do, not whether it conforms to disciplinary convention.
The Vibe
We welcome serious works, unserious works, and works that refuse to decide which they are. Essays, fragments, media objects, interfaces, playlists, scripts, visual arguments -- especially those that do not quite fit elsewhere. Hum along.
